Verification of address will be required during the registration process. Please be prepared to upload it (driver’s license, state photo id, tax bill, etc.). Your child must reside at the address listed on their profile. The verification document must have the name and matching address of the child’s parent/guardian to be accepted. Using an alternate Shelton Resident address (relative, friend, etc.) where the child does not reside will result in immediate removal from our program with no refund.
Individual classes with dates and times are listed on our website, “sheltonparksandrec.recdesk.com/Community/Program/”. Use the filter options on the left-hand side of the screen to narrow your search.
To view specific dates and times of each class, you must click the title of the class, then the “Schedule” tab, or “Fees” to view course fees.
If you are unable to get into a class and place your name on the waitlist. We will select children off of the waitlist, in order, if a space becomes available. If you are not contacted via the email on your child's profile, then a space is not available.
Please view the Children's Group Swim Lessons Level Placement Guide available to download under the "Info" tab on our website to assist you in understanding the requirements for each level.
If you enroll your child in the wrong level they will be removed from the course, and your fee will be forfeited. We do not allow children to remain in the wrong level, as they will not benefit from the course as intended, and occupy a space that could have allowed another child to enroll in the correct level.
For more detailed registration instructions please download the Children's Group Swim Lessons Information Guide available to download under the "Info" tab on our website.
Contact the Pool Director with any questions, j.taylor@cityofshelton.org.
Shelton Parks and Recreation will be offering 2 dates to evaluate children prior to registrations. THIS DOES NOT GUARANTEE THAT YOU WILL BE ENROLLED IN A LESSON, ONLY THE RECOMMENDED LEVEL PLACEMENT.
If you are unsure what level your child should be placed in, especially children that have taken lessons elsewhere or children that are starting at a later age, this is a good opportunity for you to have them evaluated by one of our more experienced instructors.
Children ages 4 and 5 will be in the Preschool Aquatics program and will not be evaluated. Please refer to the Children's Group Swim Lessons Level Placement Guide to determine if they will be in Preschool Aquatics 1 or 2.
Very limited space will be available, and pre-registration is required. A charge of $5 per child will be required. Evaluations can take as little as 2 minutes or as long as 15 depending on the ability of the child. There will be no refunds or transfers if you are not present for the evaluation.

Half sessions are offered for those who aren’t sure they want to commit to the full length of a program or have obligations that interfere with the full length of the program. Make sure you review the “Schedule” portion of the program to coordinate the dates with your personal schedule. Please note that all card purchases add a 2.5% fee to the final cost of the program. If you would like to avoid that fee you can register and pay in person with cash or a check made out to “The City of Shelton”.
“Schedule”: Please regularly review the schedule of the program you are interested in. The Community Center will be closed for government holidays and this can affect the scheduling of programs. Instructors also create their schedules and may skip weeks for personal obligations. If classes were to be cancelled by the Community Center or Instructor, a makeup class will be added to the end of the session. We will not be able to accommodate reschedules for individuals who miss class.
