Pool Rule Updates 6-21-24 - Friday, June 21, 2024

EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY!!!

Per the Shelton Parks and Recreation Commission, the pool rule for supervision of children under the age of 12 has been amended to the following:

1) Children under 12 years of age must be accompanied into the water and supervised by an adult at least 18 years old.

 a)       Adults may supervise no more than 2 children under 12 per adult.  Any adult accompanying a child must be no more than one arm’s length away from the child while in the pool.  Adults must be in the water and cannot sit/stand on the side or stairs.

 b)       Any child in a floatation device must stay in the shallow end of the pool.  Children must sit out of the pool on a bench if adult leaves the pool for any reason. Children are not allowed to wait on the stairs.

 c)       Lifeguards may limit anyone to the shallow end if the individual is a non-swimmer. (To be counted as a “swimmer” children must be able to complete the American Red Cross Water Competency test, completing the skills easily on command.)

 d)       Water Competency Test : Jump into deep water from the side, recover to the surface, maintain position by treading or floating for 1 minute, rotate 1 full turn then turn as necessary to orient to the exit point, level off, swim front crawl and/or elementary backstroke for 25 yards, then exit the water.

POOL INFORMATION

The current Pool Schedule can be found as a download under the "Info" tab, as well as listed under "Calendar" and then selecting "Pool Schedule" as the facility in the drop down menu.

Pool use requires a Pool Membership or a $5 Daily walk-in (under 5 free).

Sunday walk-ins are cash only, exact change required. Lifeguards do not have change to break bills and will turn away those that do not have exact change.

Shelton Parks and Recreation reserves the right to limit or suspend walk-ins at any time for any reason.

Children under 12, regardless of ability, must have an adult in the water within an arm's reach at all times for supervision (sitting on the edge with your feet in is not adequate supervision).

Children that require floatation must use coast guard approved life vests.  Any child using a life vest, regardless of age, will require an adult in the water to supervise them.

Swim Lessons must be taught by certified staff members.  Outside Instructors cannot utilize the pool to conduct lessons.  Those suspected of teaching lessons will be asked to leave immediately.

Anyone failing to follow Pool Rules, Health Code, and/or Dress Code will not be allowed to swim and asked to leave.
